What's a Business Analyst to do with Data?

Gathering functional requirements is hard enough, but what’s a BA to do when dealing with data at the same time?  Well, discover and define standard data elements in "business terms."  Business terms are more robust than a glossary because they use metadata that captures data usage, security classification, and targeted system implementations. Business terms are different than a data model because their definitions are specific to business context and not IT generalizations.  Enterprise-level business terms provide line of sight across business and application domains thus promoting a shared vocabulary, data reuse and data stewardship across the business and IT organizations.  Hear how the "4Ds" process of discovering, defining, designing, and deploying business terms can help your organization consistently integrate data with requirements, business rules, and business capabilities.
